has anyone ever put say... an itty bitty turbo on a 50cc 2 stroke? im about 4 days away from getting a maxi in pieces and since im gonna have to build it anyway, the only logical thing to do seems to be to boost the snot out of it. think hayaboosta, but with 1/26th the cubes. i wanna know if a turbo small enough to spool up quickly under that volume of air moving exists, and if a kit exists or if id have to fab plumbing. i know i could poke it and stroke it to get like 80ccs out of it and have a moped thats fast as E36 M3, but boost is so much cooler. do they even make dished pistons for this kind of application?

I can't help with specifics, but it's been done to Vespas

bosting a 2 stoke is not easy if it was not designed for it. you end up losing power due to blow down ect. Best way to make more power is to optomize the head design tighten the squish ect, port the cyl for longer ring life and more even power (arc the top of ports.) design a pipe for it and then start adding nitro!

Don't they make larger pistons and cylinders for them? I'd go for more displacement with a 2-smoke.

z50 is the bomb! check out takegawa stuff like 118cc kits for a 50! But it's a 4 stroke so easy to do.

Turbos generally don't work well on singles. Without a steady stream of exhaust gases, turbos don't provide a steady stream of boost.

More power is made with 2-strokes through exhaust scavenging. The allows the use of bigger jets or carb and larger or higher ports. The power band becomes higher and narrower.

I had a Derbi 50 super moto last year. It had received a Metrakit 80cc top end and Metrakit "kit" pipe. I added the 20mm carb. The power began at about 10.5k rpm and it was over at 12k. When it came onto the pipe it went from about 4 to 12 hp, and to get anywhere on the bike you had to literally ride it like you were trying to break it. It was really fun for about an hour.

My RD400 Daytona has a set of DG expansion chambers and a "Y-boot/K&N" intake. The ports have been cleaned up and the barrels and cases matched. It makes delicious smooth power from 2.5-7.5k and is a joy to ride.

A good 50cc modern scooter will make upwards of 7hp w/ a pipe and carb, like my Zuma. 70's mopeds though, not so much...

Its really expensive, but make this your new friend:

Boost is boost, i don't think air pressure cares whether its feeding a 2-stroke or not. I think what you'd have to be concerned about is getting the tuning of the expansion pipe before the turbo worked out.

This guy over at High Gain Tuning has a very clean turbocharged Aprilia RS50 scooter:

And there's a bunch of turbo Banshee quads that have been built.

Yes it can be done and done well but it's not easy like a 4 stroke. Snowmobilers love the boost. I attempted to ride a boosted sled some 15 years ago and all i got to see what handle bars hitting my chin.....

Oh yeah, that's from the Buddfab Streamliner. Uses an Aprilia RS50 motor (bike, not scooter). Set the 50cc record to 145mph.
