Me and a friend of mine went riding yesterday (New Years Eve) on the dirt. I took a birm that had mud in the bottom. I guess I didn't take it wide enough and my back tire slipped off the dry stuff and caught all sorts of traction in the mud launching me in the wrong direction and over a fallen tree. The good news is that my yz450 is fine. The bad news is my knee is extremely swollen and I'm in alot of pain. I'm worried I'm going to have to have knee surgery... again.

Well guys just a reminder that riding is dangerous and proper gear is something you should not go without. Without my boots my leg would have been broken for sure, and without my helmet I very well might have had a skull fracture. Wish me luck as I go into the next week hoping I heal on my own without having to spend money on another surgery.

Yeah good luck man. Dealing with some knee issues lately myself. Hopefully it's all ok.

Man, sorry to hear that. Both times that I have gone down, I have been glad that I was wearing the gear that I was; otherwise, I may have had expensive medical bills (is there any other kind?).

I wish you a speedy recovery.

The upside is that if I do need surgery at least it's winter and my lawn mowing business isn't gonna be doing anything til March. The bad side is I had a tree job worth a couple grand I was gonna start on Tues. Maybe I'll luck out and be fine once the swelling subsides. That's really all that's going on now is a big wait and see until it stops swelling.

I hate being helpless though. I'm using crutches now and depending on my girlfriend and my son to help me with everything right now. The idea of having to do that for another six weeks if I do have to go under the knife terrifies me. I'm getting too old for this crap.

Ow. I feel your pain, I own what has to be the world's most thoroughly trashed left knee. I wound up getting a set of CTi knee braces to keep the bad one from getting worse and preventing damage to the good right side. They are not cheap, though.

UPDATE:

I went to see the doctor on Monday. He said what I was hoping he would say. Since I've had knee surgery before it wasn't just a shot in the dark with my self diagnosis. He said that I most likely partially tore my MCL (the tendon on the inner part of the knee) and tore some of my meniscus (the cartilage underneath the knee). He did not feel like I had a torn ACL (the tendon that runs through the middle of the knee and more or less "suspends" it above cartilage other bones, etc.) Thank God. That was my biggest worry. Going through another ACL fix would have sidelined me for a while.

The bad news is that without an MRI he can't tell for sure. An MRI costs about $2500 in this neck of the woods and I have a $1000 deductible on my insurance. This is my off season and I don't really have a grand to fork over right now. So here's to hoping he's right.

Here is the other good news. The last three weeks have felt like more of the same. Pain pain pain and did I mention it motha truckin hurt! I was finally able to start putting weight on it again about a week and a half ago when I basically just decided that I was gonna walk whether it hurt or not, but it still felt awful every day. But I decided I was gonna take the week off (I've still been working believe it or not) this week, and I progressively have felt better every single day. I genuinely believe I'm gonna be able to walk this one off. If I can just quit being stubborn and chill out a little bit.

The only other stuff I have to mention is we did get the tree job done. I was on crutches and supervising, but we got it done. I had to pay a family friend to help for a couple of days to replace the work I would have done myself but it got done and I made a little money on it none the less. Also, my career on Forza 4 has been put in high gear. :)

To anyone who has never had knee problems: be careful with your good knees. It's a slippery slope from a "bad" knee to a "had surgery" knee to a "total replacement" to a wheel chair. Be careful.

I'm glad it wasn't "wheelchair bad." Here's hoping for a good recovery!
