OK, I've had my Nighthawk (mentioned on here before) since Nov of 1998. It's a '93, I put tires, chain and frt pads on it in late 2012 then rode it MAYBE 500 miles last year. Got it out again and fell back in love with 2-wheels and the ride.
Now, I've been looking/wanting a new bike for years. With the new CB1100, the FZ-09 and some others out there that I find as comfortable as my CB but with better handling, more power, fuel injection (huge for me) and , well, new.
Now, I'm a sentimental old fool. Getting rid of things I've had a long time is very very very very (did I mention "very"?) hard. So I thought that maybe I should just upgrade what I have and be happy. So I priced out suspension upgrades, exhaust, jet kit and realized I'm looking at $1100 at the minimum to do what I want. On a 21 year old bike that would still be a cold natured beast, air cooled and geared too short for any real highway use etc.
Or do I sell/trade it for what they're selling for now ($2-3k), put that towards a newer bike that clicks off every box on my list? There was a really nice FZ1 locally for $5k. $2k to trade in, that means I'd spend $3k for a bike almost 20 years newer (it was a 2009) that would likely be the last motorcycle I owned. Or do I just say "F it" and sell it all and do something else? The wife has talked me out of the last option for the last couple of years, but I really want a new bike and I really enjoy riding.
You want a new bike and the old bike isn't quite up to what you're wanting. Get rid of it and get the new bike.
I'm the same way. I never like getting rid of what I have. I become too attached.
This is the second time that I'm aware of that you're asking for permission to sell your old bike. Get rid of it and move on to something you really want.

None of the rest of your novel mattered in the slightest.

Sell it, buy FZ-09.....[/thread]
I will agree with the others. Sell old bike. Get FZ09. Enjoy having a new bike. Ride it. Love it.
The Yamaha is a really good bike for the money.

Get a bike you really want.

Seriously, as much as I respect Nighthawks, they are kind of the Buicks of the motorcycle world. Get the FZ-09 and you will wonder how you ever lived without fully adjustable USD forks, triple disc brakes, 105 RWH's and 414lb wet weights.
If you can get $3k for you hawk, do it and get this. 2003 Yamaha FZ1 for $3k

Found a listing in FL for a bike I've always wanted. CB919 with all OE parts AND aftermarket pipes/gear etc for almost what I can sell the NH for.

Stop typing and do this. Seriously. 919's a great all around bike and from what I can tell (having not owned one but always liked them from a distance) reliable as an anvil. If, for some reason I walk away from my VFR, these are one of the bikes I would look at.
I'm seriously considering this... but have to talk with the financial adviser first. I could sell the accessories I don't want for the price difference in teh two and would only be out the difference in gas money to go get it. Looks like ~$320 in gas to take the truck to get it.
You can keep your man card more easily with a CB900 than a Nighthawk. Just say'n.
