2002 sportster 883. my buddy bought it new, has around 10k miles on it.

it needs a general cleanup as it had been sitting for a year, ridden for a few hundred miles 2 summers ago, and has sat since. it fires right up, but the chrome needs cleaned. tires are original so suspect because of age.

when new he had the dealer install screaming eagle carb, exhaust(pretty much straight pipes), and drag bars. no other add ons, and it sounds nice but too loud. no scratches, dings, rash, seat great.

he's looking for custody battle money and i'm trying to help him out and maybe get a harley for my dad at the same time. he's a good guy and i'm not trying to lowball him in his time of need, just looking for some real world pricing ideas from a private party perspective.

Feels like a $4k bike to me, maybe a little more. That said, I'm not that up to speed with Sporty prices and the fact that it's an 883 might depress values a little.

IME, those are pretty solid bikes, for a Harley, but aren't worth much. Like just posted, it probably is a 4k bike FIXED and looking good.

$4k to about everyone sounds pretty fair, $8k to someone who wants to feel like the most badass CPA on the block......

No-one will think you're a badass on an 883..

In reply to Trans_Maro:

Quiet, CPA'S only want the appearance......not the actual bike to ride. They'd never know the difference

Mrs RMD sells HDs, so she said, "$4500 if it's black, $5000 if it's not black. Dealers would put it on the floor for $5995-6295ish."

it's blue.

nada says average retail is $2980. that's why real world experience is more important i guess.

She was a little off. Here's an '03 example, in Milwaukee, with three times the miles.

HIGH 3'S TO MID 4'S if it needs nothing--deduct from there. Dealers will always ask a little more because they have to go through an inspection and recondition process...also the "R" model that Paul linked to commands a bit more than the other 883s of similar vintage. Also keep in mind that there are "asking" prices and "selling" prices when you see stuff online...they are usually not the same.

At the end of the day, it's worth what your willing to pay for it...and around $4k would LIKELY be fair for everyone.

$4k because you're a nice guy helping your buddy out. You can buy a lot of bikes for $4k.

You'll need to log in to post.
