This ^^ doesn't seem too bad. Needs rearsets and proper mufflers.
You can cafe anything. Some take more work than others.
FiL has an '82 GL500 Silverwing -same engine. It'll do 70 just fine. From what I remember, it was pretty smooth.

That there's a bobber.
Saw an ad for a place that does alsorts of CX and GL hop up parts in the curent isuue of Moto-Retro http://www.motoretroillustrated.com/

Rode one for 8 years, great bike. As reliable and dependable as a red brick and lasts about as long. With 2-up and gear, I still could cruise 75 mph all day. (in 100 mile chunks of course, 2.5 gallon tank on the later ones)
With good tires (no crappy Chinese imports) it is very smooth. My plan was to cafe' mine when I got a new bike, but I decided to make a new human instead.

And just about as attractive as one.
(I know they're good blkes, I just never warmed up to their looks.)
Once upon a time, Spring had sprung, I was flat broke and wanted a motorcycle very badly.
I found a CX500 that was for sale locally and within my price range of $1 per cc. I went to see it, but I just couldn't get past the looks. There also seemed to be a lot more stamped parts on it than on other bikes.
A week later, I found an ad for a '77 CB550F Super Sport and bought it for $450.
I kept that bike for 18 years.

Hardtail and no front brakes? I'd call that one "stupid."
If there were a dusty CX500 with ten miles on the odometer in the back corner of an old Honda shop , I doubt that it would bring $2200.

Probably even less than that, if you were a good negotiator, when it was new, in '79. MSRP
