I recently got my motorcycle license by taking the MSF course.

One of my students from last semester is selling me his '00 SV650. It's the fully-naked version. I'd like a windshield, mostly to help out with open road gas mileage and comfort.

Do any of you have opinions on windshields for it, or a compatible windshield you're getting rid of it?

I'm looking at the National Cycle F18 - will that do what I want it to?

The F-18 is really too small to provide any semblance of "comfort". Something along the lines of the Plexifairing 2 would b much better for open road comfort and protection. Hit a bee or a small stone chucked up at you at 60mph, and it feels like a bullet. If that's too big, a shorter windshield from just about anywhere might be more to your liking.

I had an '01 naked SV650 and put over 6,000 miles/year on it without a windscreen and didn't really have too much problem with it. My buddy had one on his SV and when I rode it I really didn't see much difference between with and without. That being said, search for Givi windscreens, they are reasonably sized and look pretty nice.

Having ridden it for a few days, I've concluded that the complete lack of air protection helps this out as a beginner bike - 70 MPH airspeed really pushes you back hard.

I'm going to look for the larger screens but won't install one for a few weeks

But I'll bet it's functional as "heck". Ugly as sin but I'm drawn to it.

Holy abomination Batman!

I would just pick up the whole front fairing from an SV650S. I'm comfortable and protected enough by the fairing on my 650S. Should be able to get a used one at a reasonable price on the SVrider.com forums.
