Wife's left low beam burned out, replaced the bulb which had obviously lived a full life. Still no light. Checked fuses, relays and all are good. Tell me I'm missing something simple before I go taking the whole housing out chasing wires please.

Dirty connections mebbe. But you just need a multimeter or voltmeter or test light to check for power. That will save you time.
I'd wager it's the socket. I've seen it on our 99 and 01 V70's and our 03 XC70. Heat from the bulb breaks down the plastic and corrodes the terminals. I've had them break apart in my hands when removing.
Best fix is to buy an H7 socket with pigtail leads and splice it in. I remember finding one in the "Rescue" parts aisle at VatoZone. As an emergency fix, you can cut the old socket off, crimp on some spade connectors to the wiring harness, and attach those to the back of the bulb.
Found it, the plug itself was cracked in half and the connectors weren't making good contact, had to pull the headlight out to get a good look at it. Fixed that and works like new. Now if I could figure out a way to reprogram the upper electronics module ill be golden, but the Google machine says only the dealer can do that and only with a new one they sell me.
