Does anyone know of someone in North Florida who can actually balance tires for my TR250 with Dayton wire wheels? No balancing machine has succeeded yet because the wheel can't be centered properly using the standard cones. I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

You are probably looking for on car balancing. If there is someone locally that shaves tires, they might be the same guy. Ask some of the independent shops, they probably know the place you need.

Call around to the local garages asking about centerlock or Rudge adapters. You must have the correct adapters or they will NOT balance at all. It'll take a while, but you will find someone who has the right adapter. Ask each one of those that does not have the proper tool who would. These tire guys will get you to the right person. Once you find him, don't forget to tip your balance guy.

When I ran into this issue, I took a spare spline and knock-off. Machined a taper on the back of the spline (actualy, more like trued up what was there) and then bored a big hole in the knock-off nut so that the balamce machne spindle could pass through.

The the assembly can be balanced by anyone. The picture is a quick image search to give you the idea.

All of the wire wheels we deal with end up being bubble balanced.

We rarely have any issues (knock on wood)

Try Dyna Beads. I use it on my motorcycle tires, works great.

Thank you to all who contributed. I ended up finding a gentleman in Lakewood, FL who owns both a machine shop and an MGB. He has made an adaptor for a Hunter balancing machine that fits over the outer machined part of the wire wheel. I purchased an adaptor and brought it to my local (Jacksonville Beach) Sun Tire store and my wheels are now perfect. His name is Ray Luther (863-647-9414) if anyone is interested. I've never met him and have no ties other than being a satisfied customer. I would like to enclose some pictures but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

In reply to trdriver:

You need to host them somewhere like photobucket or flikr.
