I just have to say that the General Altimax RT43 new and at 6/32nd is better than the all weather tires with a 65k to 75k warranty, not to mention they soften a harsh ride also.

I have a thread that has ben ongoing for a few years and has a fair amount of good info.https://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/what-do-we-think-of-cheap-snow-tires-sumitomo-ice-edge-and-federal-himalaya/160163/page1/
Interested to hear where you land.
In reply to tarach :
Not just you. TireRack (subjective) and ConsumerReports (objective) both agree.
I have not driven anything with the crossclimate, but I did have cars that went through winter with the RT43 (OK), and the sumitomo HTR A/S(better), but better than both those was the vredestein quatrac pro.
None of these were better in winter than the cheapest snow tires however...
Personally I only run dedicated Snow tires. There is No comparison to the grip levels. But I do live in Northern Westcher County NY and the Taconic Parkway is very hilly and often unplowed at nights.
I just got a new Kona so with only 4K miles on the car the rears are ok. So I got 2 Falken WinterPeak F Ice for the fronts.
Next winter, I'll put those on the back and get two new ones for the front.
