I have a very old OBD-ll interface unit (even works on DOS and Windows 3.1). It works great but It's a PITA to hook up and having wires everywhere. This unit works only with it's own software.
I've see so many out there with Blue Tooth, WIFI and connection to smart phone and iPhone and all kinds of prices.
Can anyone tell me if they can work with any OBD-ll App/software and is there a good one that would not cost me an arm and a leg but still gives me all the goodies?
Thanks
The best bang for buck seems to be the elm327 dongle. I use it with the android app "torque" ($5) it should work with iPhone and other apps too.
+2. They are dirt cheap from Amazon.
I found a youtube youtube video of this….. I'm kicking myself for being so cheap and not replacing my 10 year old junk I thought was great….. it's like going an old "motorola Star Tech" to an iPhone 5S.
Thanks for the tip.
+1 for EML327 & similar. Note that BT-OBD modules don't work with Apple devices due to artificial limitations in iOS, you need a Wifi-OBD module for that.

I bought this one when I bought the Subaru & my older one was too big and would hit my shin. Working great with my S3 & Torque. $17.
I use a BT adapter and Torque in my truck.
