Hi guys, the weather stripping is coming off from around the doors of my car. Any tips on how to reattach the rubber stripping to the metal of the door frame?

Since this is more of a question than a tip, I'm going to move it to the main forum.

Is this trim that's glued on, clipped on, or other?

I'm pretty sure The weather stripping was glued on.

Tell us what kind of car it is. Someone here may have experience with that specific vehicle and be able to provide better advice.

There may also be aftermarket replacement seals that may be better then old OEM. I replaced the back and side doors on my 25+ year old Ford van with very nice seals I got from RockAuto. They were peal and stick, no glue. It took me 3-4 times as long to remove the OEM glued on seals and the glue then to install the new stuff.

The car is an 87 BMW 535is.

I am inclined to use what is there already to save on cost and since the Weather stripping that is there seems to be in good condition.

The actual rubber weatherstripping around the door frames is still available from BMW and isn't terribly expensive. It often will split in two, leaving part still fastened to the body with the rest hanging loose, you may be able to stick it back together with contact cement.

On the other hand, if you're talking about the inner strip with the fuzzy covering that you can see from inside the car, that stuff is on permanent back order...I put in an order for some about 8 years ago and still haven't received it. Most people just pull the rest of the fuzzy part off and leave it that way.

Ah, the sweet sweet smell of contact cement.

It's the rubber stripping. Right now most of it is completely off, but all in one piece. I need something to stick it back to the metal door frame.

This weekend, I glued in door seals on my truck using this:

I had to use painter's tape to hold the weatherstrip in place for about an hour, and it was quite a messy job. I vowed that next time I'm going to use clip-in or peal and stick door seals instead.
