20.5 mpg!!!

Loafing at 70mph/2k rpm.very suprised.

Cant complain about that! Interested to see how that changes with a light car on a dolly behind it.  I've been weighing the cost delta for a challenge trip with the suburban and a trailer vs trying to take something that can pull decent mpg yet can pull a 3k car on a dolly.

Same here.

Second tank was only 17.4 due to more congestion and traffic.

300 miles today. Holed up for the night in Richmond Virginia with my grandmother in law.

Been an uneventful trip so far.

Alarm goes off at 5am. Pickup the u haul in Newport news at 7am, meet nate and the rt at 7:45. Snow is supposed to be falling at noonish here.

Hopefully be unloading the rt around then.

Once you get the car loaded and strapped, drive a few miles and re-che k the straps.

This is my rule after sending Seth out from the hotel in Gainesville to the track with a faulty strap job which almost resulted in loosing the car, the Ford Probe.

Uhauls dollys also have a safety chain. Wrap the chain over a control arm as a secondary connection.

In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :

I thought you'd added load-bags?  Is that with them pumped up?

That looks good.

I've been getting familiar with U-Haul stuff recently, and I love it.

They put long tongues on their stuff so even a bone-headed, rear loading, no trailer towing Camry driver doesn't die. They tow way nicer than most of the farm trailers I have towed is what I'm saying.

Safe travels, Duster.

Yep, that’s the standard car recovery road-trip pic.  Good luck, Duster!

664 miles round trip.

highest mpg 20.5

lowest: 14.0

no oil used. no issues at all to speak of, other than snow.

this truck pulled wonderfully. only going uphill did we even notice the added car behind us. occasionally we had some sway issues, and stopping left much to be desired, to be honest. but nothing unmanageable or unsafe.  we put 40psi in the load bags, and it rode comfortably. the uhaul experience was quick and simple.

i woke up this morning at 4:15, had a cup of coffee and a shower, and left my grand mother in laws house at about 5:15 or so. had 75 miles from her place to newport news, where i was getting the dolly. got there at 6:45, and they didnt open until 7. so i checked fluids, organized the cab of the truck a little better, etc.

the uhaul dealer was 12 minutes from the R/T, which was on the back row at the chevy dealer the owner works at.

got there at about 7:30, and the owner didnt show until 7:45

got it loaded with the assistance of an electric push cart that nate pulled from inside the dealership. i want one now.  we aired up the load bags and neon tires, double checked things, and hit the road headed for Albemarle.

gratuitous gas station picture at about 50 miles in.

no pictures until i got home. and by the time we pulled in here, it started snowing. its already snowing in newport news, so i tossed nate the keys to the BMW, we unloaded the neon, pushed it under the carport, and he headed north again. we made plans to go get the ACR and all the spare parts next saturday, and head to the DMV to do all the title work for the three cars monday morning before i go to work and he heads home.

so far, im extremely happy with the deal we worked out, and he seems to be as well. hopefully the BMW treats him well.
