Going on a boys weekend with my son, heading to Portland Maine tomorrow evening, going to be there Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and a little Wednesday. Any recommendations on things to do? Didn't think about so many things still being closed when I booked this. Had a companion ticket that I needed to use before it expired. Thanks for any recommendations!

We ate here in 1988 and it was excellent- apparently it's still a great place according to Yelp.  Just a bit south.

Beyond what's been mentioned, a ton of breweries in the area.

I love climbing the rocks along the water at Two Lights State park. The Lobster Shack at Two Lights (just around the corner) is really good. The fire truck tour of the city is pretty good. There are also boat tours around the harbor. Or just drive along the coast.  There's so much to see. The whole coastline is dotted with old military gun batteries that you can explore. We used to go down into some of the underground tunnels.

Thanks everyone!  A lot of the light houses & museums are still closed, that's the bummer.  I wanted to go to Portland Head lighthouse and do the museum, but it's closed :(  Will still go just to see the lighthouse.  I'll look into the fire truck tour, I saw that one listed, also looked at a couple of the boat tours.  I didn't know that about the old gun batteries.  Duck fat - that sounds right up my alley :)   Also looking forward to trying Holy Donuts.  Lobster Shack at Two Lights was on my list, adding Mabel's now.  The Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum is closed, and the Maine Classic Car Museum isn't open the days we're there :(  Saw something about the Cookie Jar, I'll be sure and check that one out.  I remember going to LL Bean 40 years ago with the parents, we actually had a flat tire, and dropped the van off at a little full service station across the street and got it changed while we went into LL Bean.  Funny some of the memories you have of old trips!

The car museum in Wells is pretty disappointing. Skip that one.

Owl's Head Transportation museum is awesome, but that's pretty far up the coast.

Thank you!  Went to the Portland Museum of Art, realized Duck Fat was close by, went and had the poutine followed by the Cuban sandwich, nice meal. Thanks!

If you need lunch to go, go to Amato's (but not one at a gas station) and get a Ham Italian with salt, pepper and oil. It is a uniquely Maine sandwich. Get the regular size, not the large, as the proportions work better that way. Or get two regulars if you're really hungry. But don't try to eat it like a normal sandwich. It's more like an open faced thing on a big hot dog roll.

If you need a diner type place, try Becky's down by the water.

I saw Becky's, looked like it could be a good place.  Heading to Freeport tomorrow to take my son to LL Bean.  Touring Fort Gorges Tuesday morning.  Any recommendations up towards Freeport?  Was going to hit Maine State Museum in Augusta, and learned it's closed until 2025 for renovations.  Doh!

I've never been to Augusta, but you won't be too far from Rockland and Camden  , both are really nice, and Owl's Head. The Owl's Head Transportation Museum is totally worth it. Cars and airplanes.
