This segment of my trip is a hot shot - carrying family freight so minimizing days on the road for load security. My plan is I 5 to highway 45 then 99 to Bakersfield 58 to Barstow 15 to Victorville then 18 towards Joshua Tree and hang a left about halfway. Is there a better way?
Check on road conditions near Landers , a big summer rainstorm damaged a lot of the roads out that way , not sure if all are open ,
There was also a fire at Joshua this year that burned 43,000 acres,
no idea if it's at the area of the park you are going to ......
I think it's close to the Marine Air Ground Combat Centre.
So an update from Reno Nev. Tomorrow will be two weeks since I left QB. As all trips start from there there's either a flight or a ferry (being on an island). I needed wheels so ferry it was.
The adventure started on the ferry, we were 2/3 of the way through the voyage and the captain came on the PA and told us for training purposes we taking a different course and this got the attention of sailors far more experienced than myself. Instead of sailing south of Bowen Island we were sailing around the northern end. Sailed past Gibsons (home of Molly's Reach - a little Beachcombers reference) and Keats Island, and dead ahead the mountains on the Sea to Sky Highway. The mountains top quarter were snow covered got pix on my phone (not available right now - insert snarky comment about international roaming fees).
From there on to North Vancouver where I had been appointed responsible adult for a friend having some surgery (I don't know what they were all thinking). He had his operation which involved an epidural and a tool up the hootus I was spared the details and I am very happy with that. All went well and I was released from duty on Sunday the 19th and headed south.
Pix to come and later and to be continued my IPad is running out of electrons and I left the charger in the truck.
