Better than: the non-turbo SRX
But not as good as: an old Caddy hearse
GRM Bang For The Buck Index: 59.69
If you're going to buy a Cadillac, you're going to tick off all of the boxes, right? That's where the turbo version of the SRX comes in. While we certainly enjoyed our time with the normally aspirated, front-wheel-drive version, we picture a lot of people going with the full-boat, turbo one.
The turbo version also gets GM's 2.8-liter LP9 engine: aluminum block and heads, direct port injection and a pair of turbochargers. The on-paper advantage over the standard 3.0 doesn't seem huge--horsepower goes from 265 to an even 300--but the turbo Caddy offers a nice bump of mid-range passing power. There's even a boost gauge on the dash.

First, don't think of this as a review of a Caddy SUV. Look at the engine and overall build quality--both are pretty sweet.
The turbo 2.8 is smooth and efficient. It works very well with the six-speed auto, but what if that powerplant could be mated to a proper stick or a twin-clutch transmission and put inside a smaller chassis. GM, are you listening? Can someone say "3 series beater"?
