It's obvious that Kia is gunning for the MDX with this little SUV, as we had both at the same time, in the same color. They look so similar, staffers kept accidentally walking to the wrong car in the parking lot.
Unfortunately, they've just missed the mark. The Sorento feels, well, cheaper than the more expensive Acura. It's more like a Honda Pilot than a Japanese luxury SUV.
That isn't necessarily bad, though. I didn't like all the additional crap in the Acura, and I'd buy the Kia. It is a perfectly serviceable cute 'ute.
This is a completely reasonable vehicle to purchase if it meets your needs.
Here's something interesting: This little Kia cute-ute has a direct-injected engine. Remember when that technology was reserved for Porsches and other top-tier cars? What does that mean for the rest of us? Pretty strong performance and economy numbers without having to go hybrid. I'm not dissing hybrids, but I also like the fact that gas engine development hasn't stopped.
As far as the car itself, if you're in the market for a daily-driver ute, I'd check out this one.
