The convertible version of Audi's A5 brings the same level of luxury and comfort we've come to expect from the brand to the freedom of top-down driving. You may remember we recently tested the coupe version of the A5, too.
No, it’s not a Miata. What it is, though, is a comfortable, quick, quiet convertible.
I ran the A5 Cabriolet to Orlando one evening for an event–exactly an hour each way–and this is where the car worked perfectly. At highway speeds on a crisp fall evening with the top down, side windows up, and the heated seats on, the Audi was a delight.
That drivetrain is turbine-smooth, power is more than adequate, and the cabin is comfortable. Shift the dual-clutch transmission into S mode, and it always seems to be in the right gear. If anything, I wish I had further to go that night. It just sucked up the miles with no penalty paid.
The A5 isn’t a cheap date, but it’s not supposed to be. It’s a luxury convertible from an upmarket company. Like I said at the beginning, it’s not a Miata. This one is for those who like some frills with their fresh air–and have the scratch to pay for it.
