Why do we care about Subaru’s three-row SUV? Because we’re going to figure that it helps fuel development costs for the fun stuff–like the WRX and BRZ.
It feels like a Suburu. I know, big surprise.
I have lived with a lot of Subarus, back to the classic models of the ’90s, and there’s something comfortable about a Subaru, whether it’s a small coupe or sized for the Little League team.
This is not a replacement for those past faves and likely isn’t even on the radar for most people here. However, for those who need a bigger SUV and want that Subaru flavor, just give this one a drive.
But it has a CVT? Yeah, it does, but Subaru’s have a good feel. Like we have said before, CVTs are getting better with each revision, and most of the masses likely don’t even notice.
What people will notice here: 260 horsepower along with 277 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Ascent rides nicely, has a bit of that Subaru growl and, yeah, kinda looks cool. And it even has 19–not a typo–cupholders.
