When it comes to Lexus sedans, make them big and rear-drive. Bonus points for V8 power.
That front-drive ES? Not really my thing. The steering just always felt too vague. Leave that for the novices.
But then something happened in recent years. Lexus got the steering right and, suddenly, the ES didn’t feel like a dressed-up Toyota. Now, I admit, I’m a fan.
Is this a BMW fighter? No, we’re not there yet. Is it a car you’ll see in GRM? Likely not–maybe in a few decades we’ll see one at the $2000 Challenge.
But if someone’s looking for a roomy sedan and is wondering if the latest ES is worth a look, the answer is now yes. Call it GRM-approved even if it’s not ready for the pages of GRM.
It’s comfortable, it’s quick, and the hybrid drive engages seamlessly.
