It’s big. It feels big, it looks big, it drives big.

The AT4X package, new for 2023, takes aim at the Raptor by adding a bunch of off-road goodies to the Sierra 1500: front and rear e-locking diffs, Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, 2-inch lift, skid plates and 33-inch Goodyear knobbies.

Power comes from the brand’s 6.2-liter V8–420 horsepower along with 460 lb.-ft. of torque–backed by a 10-speed automatic.

Perhaps the biggest surprise, though: While it’s a big truck–blame or credit the extra height and width of the off-road package–the AT4X goes down the highway pretty well. Those Multimatic dampers are pretty amazing pieces as they tame that heavy tire and wheel package rather nicely.

Our dream: seeing them offered on the lower-buck AT4 package as well. Sure, we all dream about the big tires and brutish styling of the AT4X, but maybe the narrow-body AT4 makes more sense here?

Well, either way, I enjoyed the time in the AT4X. It’s big and not really aimed at me, but the pretty decent ride and very comfortable seats made it go down the highway nicely, a place where it might be more likely to be seen.
