Mustang tri-bars, box flares and a healthy dose of flat-black primer. The secret hidden inside this 1986 Ford Escort? Not one but two engines: a 2.0-liter Zetec up front with a V8 from a front-drive Lincoln Continental out back.

Chris Moore, the fabricator, and Paul Blaylock, the electrical guru, drove it from Indiana to our Florida event, where it experienced electrical issues. As we recall, the Contour engine had to provide all the propulsion.

I remember this thing vividly. It was NUTS. And the guys actually roadtripped the thing to the event! Note the severe lack of windows and the fact that there was a LINCOLN V8 IN THE HATCH. 

Again, NUTS! Too bad that it let them down in the event, because we all wanted to see what it could do.
