$2000 Challenge: Came for the sends, stayed for the friends

How many times has Bill Cuttitta missed the $2000 Challenge? Only twice in 25 years. Why? “I came for the racing but have stayed because of the people,” says Bill. “Some of these people have been friends for 25 years now. It’s an annual family reunion where we race each other.”

Last year, Bill finished fourth overall with his 1996 Dodge Neon ACR. Its mods include a 2.4-liter Turbo swap, factory Showroom Stock trunk kit (springs and rear anti-sway bar), and good ole plywood aero.

Bill adds that there’s a chance the Neon might not make it, but you can count on him still being there. The surprise, though, is that he might not be in a Mopar. He’s stayed relatively loyal to Mopar through the years, competing in vehicles ranging from a Neon to a Viper to even a Voyager minivan.

Regardless of what car you choose, if you’re not part of the $2000 Challenge family, Bill and many others would like you welcome you.

What is the $2000 Challenge? It’s our annual low-buck automotive festival that pits cars built for under $2000 in autocross, drag racing and concours judging at Gainesville Raceway in Florida on April 6-7.

Want to go beyond the $2000 limit with your car? No problem, you can enter it in our overbudget class. Don’t want to motorsport your car? No problem, you can enter it in our Hagerty Cars & Caffeine event. No car to show? No problem, come as a spectator.

Plus, if two days isn’t enough, we’ll have a post-event track day on Monday, April 8, at our official test track, the Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park.
