Acura unveiled the limited edition NSX Type S last week during Monterey Car Week, leading many to believe that it was, in fact, the last NSX we’d see–at least for a very long time. (Not to mention getting overshadowed by the news that a new Integra is on the way.)

According to The Drive, however, we still just might see a third-gen NSX:

Acura Vice President and Brand Officer Jon Ikeda said, "If you notice, we make an NSX when there's something we want to say. The first-gen was gas. Second-gen was a hybrid. There's gonna be another one."

Ikeda also confirmed this when speaking to Motor Trend:

"We learned a lot about electrification and fun to drive which is a staple…We didn't want to let the NSX die on the vine either. To go quietly into the night is not what it deserves," Ikeda added.

Naturally, when pressed further about the likelihood of the third-gen NSX being an all-electric model, Ikeda only had this to say to The Drive:

When we asked if, logically, that meant the next NSX would be all-electric, Ikeda simply replied with a smile and refused to comment further.

Of course, there’s a chance we won’t hear or see any news about another NSX for some time–if it even happens at all–but that doesn’t mean we can’t discuss and speculate what an all-electric NSX would be like–and whether or not that’s something we’re excited about.

It's a good quote from Ikeda, but was there ever any doubt that the NSX would go full electric?

Manufacturers need halo cars that show off new/exciting tech. The NSX is Acura's halo, and the exciting tech of the next decade is electric.

Also, if they go full electric it'll have a backseat for my kid, right? Right?

So we'll see that one 15 years from now?

"Wanna an NSX that can do 0-60 in like 2 seconds?"

"Yes!"

"Okay, and it'll be electric."

"Groan."
