A good detailing is generally the first thing I do to any car I purchase, project or not.
One of the best first steps to take after you acquire a new project is to detail it. That way, you know what you're really working with.
That's exactly what we were thinking after we got our Callaway turbocharged Volkswagen Rabbit GTI back home here in Florida.
Giving our GTI an initial detail served two purposes: We really don't like working on dirty cars and, if the car cleans up as well as we think it will, we might take a little more care during our restoration process.
See how we went about detailing the original paint on our 36-year-old Rabbit over on Classic Motorsports.
Is detailing an important early step for your projects, or do you wait until the dirty work is over?
After purchase, I always do a full detail, and full baseline maintenance all fluids. Then I do modify/track/drive, etc.

Yep, your newly acquired Civic Si is looking mighty spiffy. Nice job.
