Your Cars: Buick Regal Grand National

Throughout the mid-’80s, the Buick Regal Grand National was a serious player on the contemporary muscle car scene. Sure, it only had a V6 engine, but the factory turbo more than made up for the lacking cylinders. While the car is a common site on the drag strip, Andrew Scott’s example is one of the few set up to turn, too.

“Suspension’s been reworked by raiding the Moog parts catalog for stock parts from other cars that fit and fix several issues with the vehicle,” he reports. For example, taller ball joints fix the stock suspension’s ridiculously low roll center. He also added Bilstein shock absorbers and sticky Nitto NT01 tires.

“There’s a good story on how I came to own this car, too,” he adds. After driving it 16,000 miles, the previous owner was ready to move on. “He decided he didn’t want it anymore, and his adult children found out. They started fighting over who should get the car. He got fed up with them, sold it to a dealer in town, and literally told them, ‘If you want it so bad, go buy it.’ Except I got there first.”
