Can a Hyrbid Cadillac Autocross? Ironically, User Petrolburner Reports Yes

Some can say that they take their hybrid to autocrosses, and others can brag that they autocross a Cadillac, but few can say they do both at the same time. Forum user Petrolburner recently autocrossed a Cadillac ELR. Think of it as the upscale version of the Chevrolet Volt.

So, how did the ELR perform? Petrolburner originally started out in sport mode, which uses both electric and gasoline powerplants to maximize power, but the engine was unable to spool down fast enough to be effective in the corners. Instead, Petrolburner ran the car in full-electric mode for the rest of the event.

Ride along in an ELR (the fastest of Petrolburner's laps at the event):

That was a good event. Perfect weather. Not too many participants led to a lot of fun runs. Next month should be hot.

When we would autocross our Volt we would put it in mountain mode between runs and that would use the gas engine to charge the battery up to about 14 miles of reserve range. They're fun around the cones though we did end up cording the stock tires with the abuse. Fun times.

Did you have any issues in sport mode where the engine wouldn't idle down fast enough?  Going from full throttle to full braking caused me to miss a gate and scared the crap out of me.  It's never been an issue on curvy roads at speed, but the low speed of autocross plus late braking seemed outside of Cadillac's design specs.
