As the saying goes, not all show cars are race cars, but the 1970 Dodge Challenger Robert Ellsworth has entered in the 2023 Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports is apparently both.
Powering this Challenger is a modified, supercharged, 6.2-liter V8 normally found in the much newer Challenger Hellcat. The motor is good for some 850 horsepower and 850 lb.-ft. of torque, though Robert notes “we can dial this thing up well over 1000RWHP if the track layout warrants it.”
This machine offers more than just straight-line performance, as it's also equipped with independent suspension sourced from a Dodge Viper on all four corners plus Viking Performance adjustable shocks.
Is that power and trick suspension enough to make this Challenger fast enough to “Dodge” the competition and secure the title of Ultimate Track Car? There’s only one place to find out, and it’s at the 2023 Ultimate Track Car Challenge, set for October 12-15 at NCM Motorsports Park.
What is the Ultimate Track Car Challenge? It’s our annual no-holds-barred track competition that simply seeks the fastest machines on four wheels. The rules are brief: Car and driver must pass a safety inspection. Period.
Pretty much everything is welcome: new, old, factory-bought and home-built. Wings are cool. So are box flares, giant intercoolers and sequential shifters.
