Looking forward to seeing this colorful car at UTCC.
Ever wonder just how fast your track car would be if it didn’t have to meet specific class regulations? Well, so is Robert Rushton, driver of a Honda Civic Type R called REDRAGN.
Luckily, there's our annual Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge presented by Grassroots Motorsports, in which the only rules are that both car and driver must pass a safety inspection. That’s all.
That means Rushton doesn’t have to worry about his Civic Type R meeting the regulations of the Global Time Attack Enthusiast Class the Honda normally competes in.
“I'm ready to uncork the REDRAGN from the restrictive GTA Enthusiast Class rules,” said Rushton, adding that he’s looking forward to seeing how his Type R “stacks up to the best of the best.”
The Civic Type R–which set a Global Time Attack lap record of 1:34.259 for the Enthusiast Class at Road Atlanta back in May–is powered by a 547-horsepower K20C1 engine that’s fitted with a 4Piston “Stage 4” bottom end as well as custom ported head and custom tuning from FK8 Tuning and Development.
Other notable upgrades include a Rampage Fabrication Garrett G30-660 turbo kit to better force air into the engine and Paragon 6-piston big brake kits fitted up front to help bring everything to a stop.
Just how quick will Robert Rushton’s uncorked Civic Type R be? We’ll find out at Kentucky’s NCM Motorsport Park for the 2024 Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge presented by Grassroots Motorsports, October 26-27, which takes place alongside the Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty.
