Wow, cool.
Sure, the now infamous Tesla Model S Plaid makes a thrilling ride for the street, but can it take the heat–literally and figuratively–of the track?
Ask driver Andrew DeKoning, and he’ll tell you that while the stock Plaid is fast, it’s still built more for cruising than the track.
Luckily, aftermarket solutions exist–in this case, from Mountain Pass Performance.
Mountain Pass fitted this Tesla Model S Plaid with several upgrades like stiffer bushings, adjustable suspension components, additional downforce, wider wheels and a trick unit from Motec that allows even more control over the car’s parameters.
All those upgrades may have improved the on-track handling of the already-quick Tesla, but is it enough to ensure the Model S Plaid can secure the title of ultimate track car?
There’s only one way to find out: At our annual search for the fastest machine on four wheels, the 2024 Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge presented by Grassroots Motorsports.
Rules for the UTCC, which takes place alongside the Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty on October 26-27 at Kentucky’s NCM Motorsport Park, are simple: Both car and driver must pass a safety inspection. That’s all.
Outside of that, build your track car however you see fit: Twin turbos, custom-built chassis, massive wings, sequential gearboxes–it’s all welcome at the UTCC.
