There are few road racing series with more fans than touring car racing, which skips wild formula cars or templated spec racers in favor of what enthusiasts are actually driving on the streets. Touring cars have had a recent resurgence in the U.S., with Pirelli World Challenge and IMSA adding the TCR class for 2018.

Now, FCP Euro is throwing their hat into the ring. They just announced that they’d be running two TCR cars in 2018, both Golf GTI TCRs.

What’s a Golf GTI TCR? It’s a factory-built race car based on (surprise!) VW’s awesome GTI. New specs: 330 horsepower, 15 centimeters wider, and a six-speed sequential gearbox. Sounds like a blast.

Didn't someone just run one of those Golfs at the Dubai 24 HR,  winning TCE? The one in the race had a different front fascia and livery but otherwise looks very similar.

I’d have loved to see them enter with Volvo’s forthcoming TCR competitor, but the logistics don’t work for a new team.

Excited to see the FCP name on some race cars, though.
