In 2016, master mechanic and All Girls Garage host Bogi Lateiner gathered women from across the world of all skill levels to help build a 1957 Chevrolet Pickup. Better known as the Chevy Montage, the truck debuted at SEMA and sent a clear signal that “the automotive industry is a great place for a gal to be.”

Fast forward to today, and Lateiner heads up Girl Gang Garage, a Phoenix, Arizona-based program that offers hands-on learning and resources for building and maintaining cars through all-female builds as well as classes, clinics and workshops.

Its work goes beyond just Phoenix, however, as Girl Gang Garage describes itself as a “living, breathing network of women, ranging from novices to industry veterans, all coming together with the singular goal of growing stronger together and developing new opportunities for the next generation.”

I just learned about their latest build, the Iron Maven, and I'm already a huge fan.

It's, essentially, a Volvo PV455 body fitted on top of an S60 T8 (the twin-charged, plug-in hybrid)

I stopped by their "Fireside Chat" at SEMA about how men can be allies to women, girls and other marginalized folks in the industry, and it made me feel genuinely warm and fuzzy inside to hear the positivity all around that conversation.

Bogi is the real deal. Our local technical college is seeing an uptick in female students. I've met several women techs who clearly knew what they were doing. I applaud this trend.
