In addition to Gridlife announcing its 2025 schedule at PRI, it also introduced GLGT. The wheel-to-wheel class seeks to incorporate retired professional race cars (such as those from GT4 and TCR ranks) and other more powerful builds.

Gridlife says to think of it as GLTC with a bit more umph. While GLTC mandates a maximum of 12.5 pounds to 1 horsepower ratio, GLGT caps power to weight at 8.9:1. GLGT also requires 200tw tires.

It is wheel-to-wheel competition, with the same focus on clean driving and having fun that has been central to GLTC from the start,” said Gridlife Co-Founder and Director of Motorsports Adam Jabaay in a press release. “The event structure will also be the same format as GLTC, so it will not only be straightforward for our fans and drivers, but also compelling to racers who have not been to Gridlife before, and that is super exciting for all of us.”

Gridlife released its initial ruleset here. In addition to the power-to-weight-ratio and tire requirements, other competition balance factors are considered, such as aero and drivetrain layout.

As I mentioned in another thread, it's nice to see GridLife having a place for faster cars.  That said, the 200 treadwear tire requirement strikes me as a misfit for this class.  These aren't cheap cars, they don't get street driven, and the fastest 200tw tires aren't really any less expensive than a Hoosier R7 anyway.

It's also unfortunate that the only west coast date is the same weekend as the only semi-west-coast (Utah) date for WRL, meaning that people have to pick which one to attend.

If I remember right, WRL uses a 200tw-ish rule, too.

• GTO/GTU (Grand Touring) - Any commercially available tire carrying 180+ Treadwear rating are
accepted.
• GP1-GP3 (General Production) - EFFECTIVE 4/1/2024 - General Production categories are now
“SPEC TIRE” classes utilizing Continental Tires. Eligible tires are limited exclusively to the following
models: Continental ExtremeContact Force (dry/int), Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 (int/wet).
Tire choice between models for certain conditions will not be enforced by the series, distinction is
made for clarity. Tires may be purchased from any source - free mounting and balancing at WRL
events. From 1/1/24 to 4/1/24: Any commercially available tire carrying 180+ Treadwear rating will be
accepted.

Yes, but I think there's a better case to be made for tire cost differences in an endurance racing context than the 20 minute sprint races that GridLife runs.

GLTC used to allow both Hoosiers/Race tires and 200tw tires.. The inclusion tire rules now are after years of tweaking.

This will be their 6th season with GLTC and frankly.. the tire rules work and prevent having to constantly tweak rules for new tires, while also giving competitors choices.
