In an effort to “expand its commitment to cultivating the next generation of racing talent through sim racing,” Honda Performance Development–the Japanese carmaker’s in-house motorsports division and go-fast parts developer–announced today it would join Jas Motorsport in developing the HPD JAS Esports Academy.

The program, working in collaboration with SRO Motorsports America, will use Assetto Corsa Competizione to find the best sim racers in North America, Europe and Asia. The weapon of choice? The digital version of the Acura NSX GT3.

Open qualifiers start today, and they'll be used to select the top 25 drivers from each region. Of those 25, a selection will join the HPD JAS Esports Pro team.

Once on the team, sim drivers will take part in the upcoming SRO Esports season, competing in “various GT World Challenge Esports Sprint and Endurance Championships around the world.”

Those selected to compete virtually will also have the opportunity to drive a real Honda factory race car, with North American sim racers getting to take part in a three-day racing school courtesy of Skip Barber. (The release notes that “similar real-world racing opportunities will be available to European and Asian selected team drivers through JAS Motorsport.)

Open qualifications have begun, but they close on May 14, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. Click here to register.
