The last time a Ferrari-backed machine ran in the top class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it was 1973. But the Italian carmaker is looking to end that streak of absence with a Le Mans Hypercar entry for 2023.

LMH, alongside Le Mans Daytona hybrid, will replace both the Le Mans Prototype and Daytona Prototype classes. Both represent the future top classes in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Few details have been revealed about the entry so far, though Ferrari did make an announcement about the LMH entry on its social media channels earlier this week:

Since we haven’t heard much discussion on the forum about this yet, we’ll start: Are you excited to see Ferrari try its hand at prototype endurance racing once again?

Very excited as they are a fantastic competitor and WEC and any endurance racing is my absolute favorite.

The F1 cost cap pretty much made this happen, and that's a good thing.  Ferrari has a lot of motorsports money to spend.
