This week’s selected entries to the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports feature both, in the form of an LS-powered Infinti G35 and an early JDM Mitsubishi Evo.
What is the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge? It’s our annual no-holds-barred track competition. The only rule is that car and driver must pass a NASA safety inspection.
When we last saw Kevin Parlett’s 2005 Infiniti G35 in the UTCC, it sported a turbocharged V6 engine. Now, though, it’s pushing out 500 horsepower from an LS3. The car’s greatest strength? According to Parlett, it’s sheer reliability.
Emre Kayaalp, a first-time UTCC competitor, is bringing a 1994 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution II. While 292 horsepower may not seem like much, the car has only 2950 pounds to motivate, and Kayaalp hopes the well-balanced setup will offer an advantage on track.
