The K-Pax McLarens will be driven by Alex Figge and Robert Thorne.

McLaren Racing will make its return to Detroit, Michigan, after a 26-year absence when K-PAX Racing’s McLaren 12C GT3s hit the Belle Isle course May 31-June 1 in the Pirelli World Challenge series.

Veteran Alex Figge and former U.S. Touring Car Champion Robert Thorne will drive the McLarens around the 13-turn, 2.35-mile circuit, with qualifying Saturday and racing throughout the weekend.

McLaren took the checkered flag last time its cars raced on Detroit’s streets in 1988 with legendary Formula One driver Ayrton Senna. McLaren had two first-place finishes and two podiums in Formula One’s seven years in Detroit.

K-Pax Racing was founded in 2007 by Jim Haughey and is based in Denver, Colorado. K-Pax, named after the 2001 sci-fi/mystery movie starring Kevin Spacey, has captured three GT Class championships in the Pirelli World Challenge sports car series - 2007 and 2008 in a Porsche GT3, and 2010 in a Volvo S60. The pursuit for a fourth title continues in 2014 with a pair of McLaren 12C GT3 cars.
