Mecum Auctions has announced an additional auction to its event schedule. Taking place August 27-29, the Kissimmee 2020 Summer Special will be held at the same location as the annual Kissimmee auction in January, the Osceola Heritage Park.
Unlike the January auction, however, this summer auction will feature 1000 and is meant to be smaller to better encourage social distancing practices.
Why Kissimmee? From the founder and president Dana Mecum: “In Kissimmee, everyone that runs those grounds is familiar with us—it’s all like one team…and once we get to the event, we want to do what we do: we want you to be able to buy and sell cars.”

WALWORTH, Wis. – June 9, 2020 – Mecum Auctions announced on Friday the addition of a new, summertime collector car auction to its 2020 event schedule: the Kissimmee 2020 Summer Special. Slated for Aug. 27-29, the 1,000-car auction will be held at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida—the same location of the company’s annual January auction that stands as the largest of its kind in the world.
While Mecum is excited to host the August auction as a live, in-person event, remote bidding options are available, and the focus on-site will be on the safety of everyone in attendance.
Mecum Auctions Founder and President Dana Mecum joined the company’s recently launched podcast series, On The Move, on Friday to announce the new summer auction. He noted that a big reason for the company’s decision to hold the event in Kissimmee is because of its familiarity with the venue.
“We want to be somewhere where we’re very familiar with the grounds,” Dana Mecum explained. “In Kissimmee, everyone that runs those grounds is familiar with us—it’s all like one team … and once we get to the event, we want to do what we do: we want you to be able to buy and sell cars.”
Spanning three days and hosting an anticipated 1,000 cars, the summer auction has been strategically planned to be a fraction of the size of the annual January Kissimmee auction in order to allow for and encourage social distancing and safety practices. Osceola’s massive 200-acre grounds will ensure ample space for both the vehicles and those in attendance to spread out safely while also utilizing the added sanitizing stations and available PPE products as deemed necessary. Those unable to attend and bid in-person are encouraged to register for telephone and internet bidding, which allow for convenient bidding from the comfort of home.

By the way, the Mecum auctions usually have some cool stuff for the GRM crowd. You can read a piece over at Classic Motorsports about their sales.
Yes, they offer cars for those looking to drop a few million. But if you're in market for a Buick Grand National, Corvette ZR1 or something with a screaming chicken on the hood, they can scratch that itch as well. At the winter Kissimmee sale they offered a few Saleens as well as a few ASC McLarens.

And they usually have a generous selection of Rad cars.

Only the raddest.
But, yeah, if you're looking for a 280ZX 2+2, there's a chance Mecum will have it.
