An AE86 Toyota? An R32 Skyline? A JDM Toyota Starlet GT?! Yes, this is the New York International Auto Show.

Yes, it displays many of the latest and greatest from the automakers. But, the hidden gem of the show is buried below the main stage, with an incredible selection of imports from years past courtesy of something called the R2XPO.

In addition to a wealth of Japanese imports, the New York Auto Show had a display on the second level with a variety of Porsches, including a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

What’s the current going rate–about a million bucks? And here it’s just sitting within arm’s reach. (Please, though, don’t touch.)

Yes, many know the big auto shows, such as New York’s, for the wild concept cars. Genesis delivered with this X Gran Berlinetta Concept.

It debuted last December in Barcelona. Its exotic looks are matched by a mid-mounted V6, with a hybrid drivetrain delivering 1071 horsepower and 986 lb.-ft. of torque. As a concept, it’s not available for a drive, but you can get a feel for it in the video game Gran Turismo 7.

Looking for a sports car? Well, how about a sport truck? This Toyota Tacoma X-Runner Concept is more than 3 inches wider than the standard Tacoma.

It sits lower, too, with stiffer springs and custom-valved Bilstein dampers. The Tacoma rides on one-off Lacks Enterprises 21x9.5-inch carbon-fiber wheels wrapped with Michelin Sport tires.

The New York Auto Show displayed a few exotics, including this Lamborghini.

Before the Urus came the LM002 off-roader, which the Italian automaker built from 1986 to 1993.

Nissan came with a full assortment of cars from its Nismo line, including the Nissan Z and Nissan GT-R.

Also on display: 180SX replacement taillights that have been put back into production.

Subaru had its new WRX TR and BRZ tS on display. The WRX TR comes with stiffer springs, revised damping rates, bigger Brembo brakes, and 19-inch wheels wrapped with Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires. The BRZ tS comes with STI-tuned Hitachi dampers, bigger Brembo brakes, 18-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

Both are now available at a Subaru dealer near you.

Want to do zero to 60 in 2.5 seconds with a Corvette?

This E-Ray is your answer.

If Ford has its F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet has to offer its own all-electric truck, right? Meet this EV Silverado.

It offers 400 miles of range and up to 10,000 pounds of towing capacity.

A Ford Mustang race car built for the street? That’s just what this GTD is.

[Why does the world need a $300,000 track Mustang?]

ETA? We’re now told 2025.

Hyundai had the new N variant of the Ioniq 5 on hand. How does 641 horsepower, loads of performance features, and a $66,1000 price tag sound?

[Can an enhanced driving experience still be authentic?]

We sat in it and can’t wait to drive it.

KIa introduced an all-new ICE compact, the 2025 K4. It comes with a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder that puts out 190 horses.  The K4 will be available later this year, with pricing to be announced.

A taste of SEMA, too, as Mackin Industries, importer of wheels from Volk Racing, Gram Lights and others, supported local dealer Crown SpeedLab with a full display.

Find them down on the lower level with the JDM favorites.

A day or two before the show, I got a note: check out the basement.

Could the cars down there be as good as hoped? I admit, hitting the lower level was a bit of a last-minute decision. We had completed our meetings and some time to kill.

Dang. Not everything was JDM, but I’d say that everything was cool.

Some more pics.

Air-cooled 911 with a Rennline roof rack? (And sorry about the baricades–didn’t think we could remove them.)

And if you have Subarus, you have to showcase some Evos, too, right?

Sherwin Pacquette’s Evo, too.

How do we like the slope-nose treatment on a water-cooled 911?

The amount of tuner cars on the first level was seriously impressive. Some are quite the finds.

That was a good selection of photos and thanks for the extras, David!  So many candies to choose from; what an assortment.  The slant-nose/slope-nose conversion on the water-cooled Porsche was cool to see because I loved the ones from the 1980's--remember those?

The EK Type R Civic was extra-special to see. You see JDM Type R Integras but not many Civics.

In reply to DavyZ :

Totally remember those. One of our locals had a legit DP slant-nose cab: white over red with white BBS wheels.
