Before we go any further, we’d just like to pat ourselves on the back for beating pro racer (and GRM contributor) Randy Pobst in the rain. Sure, he was in a Camaro ZL1, but our little One Lap CRX on its sticky Yokohama Advan A052s outran it.
Now that we got that out of our system, how are things after day 4 of the 2024 Tire Rack One Lap of America Presented by Grassroots Motorsports?
The One Lap CRX slipped into 11th place after the morning session at Hedge Hollow Road Course–as the rest of the field finishes their runs we’re eying the overall results–after some of the faster cars were able to put down more power as the track dried.
Upon inspection, the front tires on the CRX are half worn, so Andy and Tom are working on a strategy heading into tomorrow’s sessions at NCM Motorsports Park:
Currently strategizing for NCM tomorrow. Rain is forecast for roughly lunch time. We need to rotate tires soon, which means mounting and dismounting. But we want our full-tread tires out back for best rain performance. Leaning towards optimizing for wear and rotating them first thing in the morning, as I seem to move up the leaderboard when it rains, anyway.
On the flip side, Andy pointed out that the CRX is faster than the last time he competed with the car at Hedge Hollow–blame a new engine and improved aero.
As for our friends from the SCCA, the Club Spec Mustang finished 42nd after the morning session.
All in all, things are running well, and we’re looking forward to tomorrow’s sessions at NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on May 8. In the area? Why not come on by and root for us live and in person?
