Well that idea was put to rest quickly.

If you've had your fingers crossed hoping that Honda will bestow us with a new hatchback Civic Si, you can unravel them now.
The confirmation comes from Honda of Canada’s Twitter, where the following tweet was noticed by users on both civic11forum and the civicXI forum:
Specifically, the confirmation is Honda of Canada replying to a comment on the page’s Civic Hatchback reveal post.
Of course, this currently only pertains to Canadian Civics, but it’s likely the same will hold true for the U.S.-market Si.
Were you holding out for a hatchback, or do you prefer the Si as a sedan?
Well, it could canibalize sales of the Type-R hatch! You know, the one that dealers try to charge 50% markup on and then let collect dust on their showroom floors for years...so none get sold. It's simple economics :P
(sarcasm, in case anyone didn't recognize it)
Nothing like manufacturers having all the pieces in the parts bin to easily make the configuration that people want, having them all federalized and crash tested and just not opting to do so.

What? Really? Literally what is point of an Si then.
In reply to Appleseed :
This hatch really had a chance to harken back to the Mazda 626 GT 5 door, with massive amounts of utility and engaging performance had Honda done an Si version. Savagegeese did their initial impressions video this week (without a test drive) and the hatch really seems to work for utility and the interior design and quality is excellent. It appears to be an excellent vehicle, I just wanted a trim level with a 6 speed, limited slip and 230 or more horsepower to cover all the fun bases without a utility penalty.
