Too late to start?
No.
Maybe too late to finish.
Sure, you could start building an entry for the $2000 Challenge months in advance, but why do that when you could start mere weeks away from the event?
That looks to be the idea behind forum user a_florida_man’s recently acquired (as in just last night) 2008 Mini Cooper S.
We’ll let a_florida_man give you the lowdown on this machine:
Automatic
runs, but not by much.
oil everywhere.
Hard miss, rough idle… but a good starting Budget $900
Having only spent $900–leaving $1100 on the table–the plan is to on get the Mini fixed, turbocharged and fitted with sticky tires.
Follow the build thread here so you don’t miss out on how this story progresses.
There is still time to enter your low-buck machine into the $2000 Challenge. Visit 2000challenge.com to enter.

why doesn't my car run like that?
That is the issue isn't it?
We shall see where the dark arts of this Bavarian Brit take me.
So far it's looking like 2000's computers and fuel injection with the hoses and random sensors of a 90 escort.
Just odd looking.
