All hail the new glory years of sports car racing! Toyota in GT, Audi and Porsche in LMDh, this has been a great week!
Back in the day–the “day” being when GTP cars ruled the earth–Toyota ran a dominating IMSA program. Well, they’re back: During the 2021 season, the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge will welcome the Toyota GR Supra GT4.
Toyota Gazoo Racing, the brand’s European-based competition arm, developed the turn-key race car. Riley Motorsports, one of America’s most dominating race teams, has already signed up to campaign the new Supra race car.
"We are really excited to be part of the new GR Supra GT4 racing program in IMSA next season," said team principal Bill Riley. "It looks competitive right out of the box, and I know it won’t disappoint."
The GT4 Supra will be powered by a 430-horsepower, inline-six backed by a seven-speed automatic transmission. From the IMSA release: “Toyota Racing Development (TRD) U.S.A., Inc., will support Supra GT4 customers at all Pilot Challenge races with a systems engineer and spares truck.”

I love to see this; it looks good as a race car. If only GTLM would have some more companies sign on...

It does feel good seeing Toyota back in IMSA.

That would be cool but, yeah, it's a lot easier to bring a GT4 car to market. JG and I were talking about that earlier today.
They could have switched out the Pirellis for some Michelins for the promo shoot
Great to see another marque in the series! Is there any crosspollination between this effort and the Lexus GTD entries?
So IMSA has Mazda, Cadillac, Acura, Toyota, and ?
LeMans has Audi, Porsche, Peugot, and Toyota
Everybody bailed on Formula E and went road racing, this is great!
