Looking for a neat weekend project? How about turning a single piece of sheet metal into a bomber-style seat?
The best part? You get to learn it from master metalworker and fabricator Ron Covell. All you'll need is a good-sized, single sheet of metal—Ron uses steel in his example—and a decent welder.
Get the full step-by-step process over on Miller Welding's website.

He really is, at some point I want to take one of his classes even though I have absolutely no talent.
Ron has been a friend of mine for a long time. We've hosted his classes at Eclectic Motorworks 4 or 5 times over the past 20 years. He's had to cut way back due to the pandemic, but when he's back on schedule you should try to see him. He's very knowledgeable and makes metalwork approachable.

He really does make it approachable: after reading his write up I'm sitting here thinking "I can do that!"

I was buying Street Rodder just for his column. Metal working is something I always wanted to learn but never got quite right. Thankfully a bit of bondo kept our stock cars presentable but it would have been nice to not need it.

Seriously, Wally, the next time Ron does a class at Eclectic, you should go. Heck, I should go, too. We can party with Carl and Alan, which is as good as it gets.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
BTW, when they do start up the classes again, offering early registration on Patreon would be a nice perk.
I have so much rust repair and metal work ahead of me, taking some classes before starting would be prudent.
