Glad to see this one coming back.
Many moons ago—okay, it was 2013–a V8-powered Morris Minor competed at the $2000 Challenge. It finished 10th overall. Fast forward to March, and the car was purchased by forum user Floating Doc.
Although the original plan was to build a V8-swapped Chevy S10 for the 2022 Challenge, that idea went out the window when the Morris came up for sale.
The new plan, then, is get the V8-powered Minor ready for the 2021 Challenge. In order to do that, Floating Doc made a to-do list:
- Mount the seats.
- Posslble (likely) transmission rebuild.
- Sort out the shifter, brakes (need a bias adjuster) and steering.
- Change all fluids, pre-oil the engine and get it running (starter isn't installed, needs shimmed).
- Header extensions and mufflers (currently just long tube headers only).
- Quick release for the steering wheel. It came with an aftermarket wheel.
- Safety/tech stuff: SFI balancer, flex plate, transmission shield, door bars.
- Tow hooks.
- Battery shutoff.
- Tires, slicks (came with a pair of drag slicks on some turbine wheels).
Floating Doc also admits that he’ll have plenty of questions going into the build, though one thing is for certain, the name: The Hurricane Fund, so named because “we keep a stash of cash for a Hurricane fund. My wife's my biggest enabler, suggested we raid the fund to buy the car.”
