A V8-powered Sprite called Riggamort | Your $2000 Challenge Cars

The best way to start building a car for the $2000 Challenge? Try diving in head-first like classicJackets: “Welp, starting my foray into challenge build goodness with a 62 year old, half-sorted V8 roadster drag car. What could go wrong?”

Specifically, that half-sorted car is Bugeye Sprite that became available after its previous owner ended up in an assisted living facility and could no longer care for the project.

Of course, that was back in October of last year. To see all the work that has transpired since then, check out the build thread over on the Builds and Project Cars forum now.

We had a Bugeye that raced at Westwood near Vancouver back in the 70s, that had a Buick 215 engine in it.

Ironically, although it went rather quickly on the straights, the lap times were comparable with the fastest regular engined Sprite (which set the class record for 'normal' production Sprites using a hand grenade 1275 engine).

Geez, the saga of the road trip to transfer stewardship was riveting enough!

Every time I drive a long distance to get a car I say nope that's it.  I'm not doing that again.  Then a cool car comes up and I'm all well the last trip wasn't that bad.
