BMW had the E30 M3, Mercedes-Benz had the 190 E 2.3-16.

This particular 190 E has been modified into the “ultimate canyon-carving, racetrack-shredding, daily driving machine.”

More specifically, the Mercedes-Benz has been upgraded with a Strömung exhaust, Koni shocks, H&R springs, Compomotive wheels, Pirelli P-Zero tires, Recaro seats and more, plus has had several creature comforts–like the soundproofing, carpets, A/C compressor and radio–removed to save weight.

The seller does note, however, that the car has an “intermittent unsteady idle.”

Find this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16 listed on eBay Motors for $17,500.

Given E30 M3 prices, that seems like a downright bargain

Raises hand.

I love mine. I've also got a couple of E30 M3's, one street car and one race-prepped. The 190E is more fun to drive and generally better handling. Very neutral and easy to steer on the throttle. The engine is also sweeter: more midrange torque; sounds great.

Yeah, seems like a bargain given other pricing. I just saw a mint 2002 for $36k, for example.

I'd have to ditch those wheels though. Something looks off about them, not sure if it's width or offset or diameter. Weird because I like the design.

That's about the last Mercedes I was ever interested in.

Clean, well taken care of, but not too perfect to beat on - my perfect spec.

In reply to CyberEric :

17- and 18-inch wheels are WAY too big for the car. For looks, 16" is perfect. For performance, 15" is better.

I race with 225/45/15 tires on 15x8" wheels and that's perfect for the platform.

I also really like 15x8 wheels and a 225/45/15 tire--I just wished there were more manufacturers cranking out this size.

That car is cool. I'll be honest, driving the 4cyl 16v car after driving my m104 24v i6 ruined the Cosworth cars for me. This chassis doesn't need a whole lot of power but around 225hp really makes the car more enjoyable.

I was thinking about ordering a set of those wheels (Compomotive TH1781) in silver. They don't look that good in black.

So are you saying you have the 190e with an m104 I6?
