Depending on the model year, the first-generation Honda Civic CVCC was capable of 50-60 horsepower. Forum member mdshaw’s Civic CVCC, on the other hand, is now good for well over 100 . How so? Well, that diminutive CVCC engine no longer lives under the hood. Instead, mdshaw installed a built D16Z6 engine—the one from the EJ Civic—in its place.

That isn’t the only modification for this little Honda. Mdshaw explains that the “list of upgrades is extensive,” including the five-speed from a CRX, BCR coil-overs, and rear brakes built using parts from a Prelude.

Learn more about mdshaw’s D16Z6-powered, first-generation Civic over on the Builds and Project Cars Forum.
