Wow, never expected this to be featured, thanks!
Even though we never got the Cosworth or XR4i versions in North America, we did get a version of the Ford Sierra through the short-lived Merkur brand as the Merkur XR4Ti. Unlike its European counterparts, the Merkur made do with a turbocharged Lima four-cylinder engine similar to the one found in the SVO Mustang.
So what does one do with an unusual Ford product like the XR4Ti? Well, if you are forum user TXratti, you turn one into a race car.
From the start of the build thread back in August of 2019, the car had already had a laundry list of modifications that included the block and head from an ’84 SVO, a Cosworth intercooler, a custom exhaust, and a mix of suspension components from Koni and Bilstein.
Since then, a lot has been done to the car—both good and bad. Namely, the Merkur got stolen, but was quickly found since the car was left right around the corner from TXratti's home.
More recently, TXratti is in the process of replacing the car's current T9 transmission with a T5, as well as fitting up a new set of Enkei wheels and Bilstein shocks.
If you want to keep up with the progress on this unusual Ford-based build thread, be sure to head over to the Builds and Project Cars Forum.
