As mentioned in our last update on our 1965 Mustang vintage racer, we used parts from a Cobra Automotive kit to mount modern versions of the classic Shelby over-rider traction bars. These bars are designed to control the live axle under acceleration and deceleration.
To mount the brackets, we first had to weld together the brackets that mount the traction bars. These brackets needed to be welded to the differential housing before the rear end went in the car.
The next step in the instructions: Cut the body–as Shelby did back in 1965–and weld the mounting bracket to the floor, just before the wheel wells.
Cobra Automotive’s Curt Vogt said to wait and mount these brackets once we had the car about finished and full of fuel (or a representative ballast) so that we could properly set the preset for these bars.
The kit went together well. The hardware provided fit fine and, once we get the car on the ground, we can finish welding in the front brackets.
