Is there an anti scratch treatment they put on polycarbonate windows ?
it just seems like it would scratch wiping off dirt etc and with wiper blades....

To save weight, we decided to replace our 14-pound glass windshield with a 7-pound polycarbonate piece from Shields Windshields.
Now to install it.
[Replacing a Glass Windshield With Plastic]
An early Mustang secures its windshield with a rubber seal, not an adhesive bond. Our car had a nearly new rubber seal, so we reused it.
The installation procedure is tedious but rather simple: You slowly work the windshield into place while pulling the rope out as it drags the seal into place.
Rope? Watch the video for details.
Once in, the trim snaps into place using clips available from National Parts Depot.

Tear offs for windshields are available. Also a thin piece of protective plastic can be laminated on, that was my favoured face shield for hockey full or 3/4 in lexan with an anti fog anti scratch laminate.
Living in the desert I've always given the poly windshields a pass.
Out of curiosity; besides the 7lbs for the front how much weight savings have you manged with the side and rear windows?
